Porsche Experience Silverstone

3,2,1… Race! Today I spent 90 minutes at the exciting Porsche Experience Centre in Silverstone with Alex. We each drove for 45 minutes the Boxster and Boxster S. The experience consists of driving in 4 different scenarios. I started with 12-15 laps of the circuit, during which I learned how to tackle corners, when to speed and how late I can brake. Moreover, each lap I was given advice on how to stay on the perfect line during corners and how to prepare the next turn. After this thrilling experience, I took on the Kick Plate. You might wonder what that is. You enter a wet zone, with virtually no grip, and just before you reach the wet paint there is a metal zone which throws the care either to the right or the left randomly. You are left flying in one of the directions with the aim of controlling the car! Really scary at first! Following 5 attempts in which I could not focus on getting the right amount of gas and handling, I ultimately managed to keep the car on track. The next two challenges were the Drifting Circle and the Ice Plate. In the first instance, the aim is to keep the car spinning for the entire circumference of the circle. The Ice Plate is somewhat similar to the Kick Plate adding that instead of a flat surface one encounters a slope. In this section I learned how to control the car when going down an icy hill as well as up.

Below you can see a gallery of photos from Silverstone and the Porsche Centre which houses an impressive collection of cars. Also, it features several old models as well as car components such as wheels, steering wheels, types of seats, seat belts. Really impressive! Enjoy!

Oxford – Barbecue, first Snow and a great time

We spent a couple of great weekends with our friends Andreea and Alex at our place in Oxford. Apart from the traditional barbecue (thank you Alex), we witnessed the first real snow of the year:). Monopoly, snowball fights as well as grocery shopping were just a few of our activities during these days.  We came up with the idea of starting a blog for Maria’s recipes. WhatTheFood.me’s first steps were taken on a Saturday night, when we came up with the name, the logo and the website format. A few weeks later, and this naive idea turned into a serious blog, with more than 300 followers. Who knows, maybe in a few months, we will remember these days as the beginning of a business idea… and WhatTheFood will become a successful restaurant in Cyprus.

Christmas and New Year

This year we decided to experiment something new for the winter break. We spent Christmas in New York, a few days in Las Vegas and over 1 week in Miami, Florida. It was an interesting mix of cold weather, beautiful sights, sky scrapers, gambling, white sandy beaches and many more. In the last few days of our trip we got together with my brother and his lovely family and visited Florida Keys, a group of small islands that stretch for about 200 km off the shores of Florida.
